The Jet Setter

I have lost count of the number of Saturday mornings I have
watched Miss Francesca pack her bag for a quick weekend
getaway. I sit on the edge of her bed like a kid sister and
observe her well-planned packing: the maillot for an
afternoon swim, the slingbacks and cocktail dress for dinner
and drinks, the cardigan for morning coffee. She tosses in a
smaller bag filled with a strand of pearls, a small atomizer of
her signature perfume, and her favorite shade of lipstick.
Each selection is deliberate, but she's a pro and can pull it off
in a matter of minutes. She chooses clothing in luxurious
fabrics that won't wrinkle, then rolls each piece gently so it
will reach its destination in excellent shape.
The most impressive part of this routine is how tiny a
weekend bag she needs. When she's finished packing, she
tosses it over her shoulder, grabs her keys and gives me a
quick hug goodbye. Then she's on her way to someplace
fabulous.
And I jet off to find my own weekend bag.
