The Hood

The Hood

On Saturday mornings, I put on my well-worn college t-shirt,
stretch leggings, and my softest hoodie. I take the time to
lace my running shoes snugly and smooth my hair into a long
ponytail.

I eat a bowl of wheat flakes and fill my portable water bottle
at the sink. I grab my keys and am out the door by 8:00 a.m.

At the front stoop, I start my stretches, warming my muscles
with agile lunges and side bends. I jog in place to wake myself
up and look down my street towards my destination: Central
Park.

And always on this first glance, my eyes are drawn to the
coffee cart on the next corner. At first, I push the thought
from my mind, but sure enough, I always cave.

I grab the newspaper from the stoop and make my way
towards the cart. My cozy armchair is waiting.
