Buckle Down

"You're late."
I cringed and turned around slowly, wondering who had
caught me tip-toeing down the hallway to a staff meeting.
Immediate relief came over me; it was my favorite
co-worker, John, just teasing me and making his own last
minute rush to the conference room.
"I'll blame you," I laughed and we sprinted down the
remaining hallway in a fake race. The door and the blinds to
the conference room were already closed, so we both peeked
cautiously between one of the slats to time our tardy entrance.
"Ooooh, she has the cutest buckled shoes," I whispered to
him, our editor's feet quickly approaching the door.
"Would you like to join us?" She asked as the door flung open
and we jumped in surprise. We walked in quietly, our faces
flushed. "I was just telling everyone how we need to buckle
down and get this next issue completed."
John and I both looked down to conceal our laughing.
