The Sweater Tunic

Each fall, I am assigned a travel piece that takes me to San
Francisco. I write about the grape harvest in Napa or
Sonoma, the tiny inns along Highway 1, or the latest
restaurants that have appeared on the San Francisco scene.
When I make these trips, I always make a stop in Carmel, one
of my favorite cool-weather destinations. I walk along Ocean
Avenue and stop into the Carmel Bakery for a warm pastry.
I wind through the little streets, peeking into boutiques, art
galleries and markets. I sample wines, enjoy French onion
soup at a bistro, and find a new read at the local bookstore.
Then, I head down to the beach with my picnic blanket and
book.
I'm packing for my annual trip this morning and am filling my
suitcase with the essentials: jeans, leggings, boots and
sweaters. I've selected to take all my tunic-styled sweaters
this year. They'll keep me warm while keeping my look chic.
