Ring in the New Year

A few years ago, I stopped in to visit Miss Francesca at home
and found her in a serious panic. She was leaving for Buenos
Aires the next morning and couldn't find her passport.
We rummaged through every drawer of her apartment,
sorting through silk scarves, travel diaries, and theater
playbills. It was a delightful and playful glimpse into Miss
Francesca's life.
One particular drawer took my breath away: her jewelry
drawer. Displayed on black velvet, a line of sparkling cocktail
rings appeared stunning and magical.
I made a pledge that day to celebrate each of my birthdays
with a new cocktail ring. My collection is quite modest, but
the new sparkle excites me nonetheless.
