How We Met
I was working on a travel piece in San Francisco when I met
Miss Francesca. She is a dear friend of my editor, who
insisted I meet with her and get an insider's view on the city.
She wasn't even a local, but her extended travels have made
her somewhat of an expert on the world's greatest cities.
Within minutes of meeting her, I was mesmerized. She
perfectly balanced an air of elegance with a witty sense of
humor. Her confidence was evident; however, she made me
comfortable in her presence. And her sense of style was
stunning and intriguing, yet effortless.
We became good friends that afternoon, and I made her
promise right there to teach me how I could develop a
signature style like hers. She called it votre mode, or "your
style," and I quickly embraced this idea of evolving my own
distinct look.
